About the Weather Station
The RVYC-owned weather station is a professional Vantage Pro2 system designed by Davis Instruments that measures wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, temperature, humidity, and rainfall. The wind anemometer located on V dock of the Cadboro Bay marina approximately 15 feet above sea level, and has accurate real-time measurement of breezes within Cadboro Bay.
Data are transmitted via a wireless connection to a local server every 10 seconds, and uploaded to the internet at 5 minute intervals. Real-time weather information is accessible on the RVYC web site through Davis WeatherlinkIP internet display software. The RVYC site also provides links to other resources of interest to the boating community.
RVYC is proud to support and participate in the School-Based Weather Station Network, an on-going Vancouver Island-wide project focused on providing K-12 teachers and students with real-world, interactive resources that encourage learning in science and mathematics. Weather information is also uploaded to the
Weather Underground, a world-wide network of private and government weather stations used to monitor weather conditions, refine local forecasts, and improve climate change projections.
